MILPITAS, Calif. -- LSI Corporation (NYSE:LSI) today announced it has partnered with nine other companies to found an organization focused on deep packet inspection (DPI). The mission of dPacket.org is to become the premier resource for information, expert discussion and collaboration on DPI. An increased awareness of the need for DPI, corresponding solutions to fill that need and broad community involvement will be the result of the efforts of this group.

"LSI chose to be the first semiconductor member due to its major focus on security solutions for networking and storage applications," said Randy Smerik, senior vice president, Networking Components Group, LSI. "The industry is just starting to recognize the need to intelligently manage networks in a secure manner in an ever increasing hostile environment. Deep packet inspection technology is the key component to delivering highly secure solutions, and this organization will enable industry knowledge to make that happen."
