COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Emulex Corporation(NYSE:ELX) today announced the general availability of a new embedded SAS I/O Controller (IOC), the latest addition to its driver compatible, multi-protocol IOC family. Designed for storage system providers that want flexibility in their storage controller designs, the Emulex IOC 500S provides the necessary performance to simultaneously support target and initiator modes, while also enabling the data integrity and scalability features enterprise-class storage systems require.

"Emulex has demonstrated today through the launch of the IOC 500S and the previously released IOP 502M its commitment to supplying storage system OEMs with SAS solutions that are a part of our broader industry-leading multi-protocol embedded product portfolio," said Bob Whitson, senior vice president and general manager of ESP, Emulex."Delivering SAS-based products is a critical part of Emulex's embedded strategy to provide customers with a comprehensive embedded product portfolio."

"The Emulex IOC 500S is a key building block for AMCC's SAS RAID controller development," said Barbara Murphy, vice president and general manager, AMCC Storage, Products. "It provides the connectivity and scalability to allow us to effectively leverage AMCC's existing high performance SATA RAID architecture to deploy robust storage solutions."

The Emulex IOC 500S is the newest member of Emulex's driver compatible multi-protocol ASIC family. Emulex now offers the IOC 500S for SAS, IOP 502M for mixed SAS and Fibre Channel, IOC 504 and IOP 504 for pure Fibre Channel environments. The multi-protocol IOC/IOP family is the result of a joint development agreement with Intel and takes advantage of the underlying technology of the Intel(r) IOP34x Storage Processor family.

"The Emulex IOC 500S shares an underlying architecture with the highly flexible and scalable Intel(r) IOP34x Storage Processor family," said Mike Wall, general manager of storage, Intel Server/Storage Platform Group. "This enabled Emulex to deliver a high performance SAS solution for external storage products that is pin- and driver-compatible with the latest generation of storage products from Intel and Emulex, maximizing the design savings and time-to-market advantages by investing in a single architecture for use in a scalable, multi-protocol array of products."In a separate release:

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today introduced its new family of InSpeed(r) Embedded Storage Switches that enables complete speed flexibility across Fibre Channel storage system back-ends. The InSpeed SOC 432 delivers compelling new, industry-exclusive capabilities to storage system OEMs, including per-port speed agility, speed aggregation and native SATA disk drive attachment to FC back-ends, by implementing the recently-approved, addition to the Fibre Channel standard, FC-SATA.

"The introduction of the InSpeed SOC 432 demonstrates Emulex's commitment to providing storage system OEMs with the latest advancements in Fibre Channel technology, today's most widely shipped and field proven external storage system protocol," said Bob Whitson, senior vice president and general manager of ESP, Emulex. "We continue to build and expand upon our market-leading position by delivering additional Fibre Channel advancements and extending our comprehensive multi-protocol embedded product portfolio."

Developed for storage system providers who want to offer the most competitive Fibre Channel storage systems possible, the InSpeed SOC 432 is a 4Gb/s embedded storage switch family that enables complete speed flexibility across storage system back-ends. Emulex continues to progress Fibre Channel back-ends with the most advanced capabilities required for enterprise-class storage systems, such as:

  • Per port speed agility at 4, 3, 2, 1.5 and 1Gb/s

  • Bandwidth aggregation for maximum performance

  • Native SATA disk drive attachment with FC-SATA

  • SATA disk drive monitoring with FC level RAS features

  • Disk drive workload management and SMART support

  • Back-end resiliency with Stealth Intelligent Change Manager

  • Highly dense Switched Bunch of Disks (SBOD(r))

"Customers continue to expect more from enterprise storage systems in terms of capacity and performance," said Dave Reinsel, program director, Storage Research, IDC. "Emulex's recent InSpeed milestone announcement, a doubling from 10 million to more than 20 million InSpeed port shipments in a little over one year, validates the importance of the Fibre Channel market. The company's new InSpeed SOC432 illustrates Emulex's commitment to the continued advancement of Fibre Channel capabilities that enterprise-class storage systems require."
