COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced it is providing its data center customers with server-to-fabric authentication capabilities, which enhances the overall security of storage area networks (SANs).Available for use with the Emulex 4Gb/s family of LightPulse(r) Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) and forthcoming 8Gb/s HBAs, the authentication capabilities are designed to protect all the access points into the SAN.

Based on industry standards, Emulex's implementation of authentication within the HBA is the first to comply with the Fibre Channel Security Protocol (FC-SP) and is available next month. By incorporating support for the DH-CHAP authentication protocol, Emulex HBAs are capable of protecting end users against worldwide port name spoofing, host masquerading and non-malicious outages caused by human error.

"Emulex's commitment to enabling greater storage security is validated by its first-to-market position and delivery of authentication-enabled products," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corp.
