Contest Results: The Cleverest Caption Is
Community members pulled out all the stops suggesting witty one-liners for our first caption contest. We announce the winners.
September 11, 2014
During the last two weeks of August, we published a captionless cartoon from illustrator John Klossner for Network Computing's first ever cartoon caption contest. We asked community members to fill in the blank, penning a creative and clever subtitle. You rose to the challenge, submitting more than 100 captions.
That made work very difficult when it came to choosing contest winners. There were many, many entertaining entries. We truly appreciated all of them. But still, someone did have to choose.
So without further adieu, the winner is:
Figure 1: "Bob took the idea of 'simplifying the data center' a little too literally."
Congratulations to community member Yellowdog1, who submitted the winning entry. You can see the witticism matched up with the original artwork above. We think it makes for a nice piece of deadpan IT humor.
Yellowdog1 is receiving a $50 Amazon gift certificate as a reward for his efforts. Perhaps some Dilbert will be showing up in that shopping cart soon.
Our runner up, the winner of a $25 Amazon gift certificate, is community member jgherbert. JG submitted several zingers that were in contention, but the one that especially caught the judges' attention was, "This is absolutely the last time we'll buy 'refurbished.'"
Congratulations to both of our winners, and thanks to all who participated in our contest. We'll be holding similar events in the coming months, so if you have a fun contest idea we'd love to hear it.
