Aristos Unveils Device
Aristos Logic announces availability of the industry's first multi-protocol RAID storage processor device
October 15, 2007
FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif. -- Aristos Logic, the industry leader in RAID Storage Processor (RSP) technology, announced today availability of the AL3450 UltraSlice-MPx™, the industry's first single chip RAID solution supporting multiple host and disk protocols including Serial ATA (SATA), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Fibre Channel. The AL3450 is Aristos Logic's third-generation product based on the company's breakthrough RAID Storage Processor technology first introduced in 2002.
Developed in response to some of the fastest growing segments of the market such as blade servers, the AL3450 features enterprise class performance and reliability while delivering low power consumption in a small footprint. “The industry is clearly moving towards cost effective, power efficient, high density storage that also delivers enterprise class Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS),” said Vipul Mehta, VP Marketing of Aristos Logic. “With the AL3450 device and Aristos RAID Software, we are able to offer our OEM customers a highly competitive solution that addresses these requirements without compromising performance. Integration of interfaces that support SATA, SAS and Fibre Channel protocols enables our customers to offer multiple storage platforms using a single underlying architecture,” added Mr. Mehta.
The AL3450 integrates the multi-processor RSP engine, 3Gb/s SAS and 4Gb/s Fibre Channel host and disk interfaces and a PCI-X interface on a single chip. The RSP is composed of multiple, pipelined RISC processors and compute elements designed to automate and accelerate the storage data path. Aristos Logic has also doubled the number of host and disk ports, thus providing greater connectivity with twice the throughput. In conjunction with Aristos Logic’s industry-leading RAID Software, the AL3450 delivers advanced functionality while providing OEMs a framework for customizing their storage management capabilities. The combination of silicon, software and reference designs from Aristos provide customers the necessary building blocks to significantly reduce development costs and accelerate time to market.
“With simplified management, dramatic reduction in floor space and cabling and significantly lower power consumption, blade severs such as IBM BladeCenter are already changing how clients integrate their IT,” commented Doug Balog, Chairman of Blade.org and vice president IBM BladeCenter. “Aristos Logic’s offerings will help to further enhance storage solutions for blade platforms by delivering strong storage performance along with cost efficient RAID capabilities in a smaller, more power efficient package.”
