SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- 3Leaf Systems, a provider of server virtualization solutions for next-generation data centers, today announced a relationship with AMD that aligns the two companies in the development of 3Leafs Virtual Compute Environment (VCE), an advanced virtualization architecture that enables mainframe-class capabilities for commodity servers. The first product on 3Leaf’s VCE roadmap, the 3Leaf V-8000 Virtual I/O Server, was officially unveiled last month and it was developed using AMD64 technology. The 3Leaf V-8000 virtualizes the I/O for x86-based servers, supporting the entire line of AMD Opteron™ processors. Future products on the 3Leaf roadmap will continue to expand the AMD relationship by leveraging coherent HyperTransport™ technology, which 3Leaf has licensed.

“3Leaf Systems is an ideal partner for AMD, because it supports our commitment to performance-per-watt leadership and extends the value of AMD Virtualization™,” said Randy Allen, corporate vice president and general manager, Server/Workstation Division, AMD. “We will continue to work closely with 3Leaf to offer solutions that improve the overall utilization and performance of our customers’ large-scale, AMD Opteron processor-based data centers.”

The 3Leaf Virtual Compute Environment delivers system-level virtualization across multiple racks to enable mainframe-class capabilities for commodity servers. With 3Leaf Systems’ server virtualization solutions, organizations can significantly reduce their investments in infrastructure and operations, rapidly deploy and provision data center resources, and ensure resources are available to meet the unique business and performance requirements of today’s data center applications.

“AMD continues to be a catalyst for breakthrough processor innovations that power global business,” said Bob Quinn, CEO of 3Leaf Systems. “We are excited to be working closely with AMD to quickly bring to market leading-edge server virtualization solutions that will help unlock the enormous untapped potential of scale-out data center architectures.”
