The technology industry has been promoting the benefits of the Internet of Things (IoT) for more than a decade. In theory, connecting physical devices to the Internet will make life easier for consumers while giving companies new business opportunities and greater control over their operations and business processes.

A recent Interop survey of technology decision makers found that the vast majority of organizations are investigating and investing in IoT technology — but they are doing it slowly and cautiously. The survey revealed the following:

  • Status of companies’ IoT initiatives

  • Organizations’ spending plans

  • The top IoT products/services being purchased

  • Major obstacles to IoT adoption

  • The technologies that will have the greatest potential to positively affect your business in the next 5 years

  • Which industries will benefit most from IoT
