Responding to the demand for business cloud services and Web enablement of applications, Nexaweb has launched a new platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering that is designed to help businesses move legacy applications into the cloud while still providing the familiarity of client/server-type solutions.

The company’s new Client/Server-to-Cloud Platform incorporates several features for developing, testing and deploying Java-based applications, allowing business to modernize applications and move to the cloud simultaneously.

"Application modernization is the perfect cloud use case because it solves the biggest problems of on-premise solutions--the provisioning delays and high capital expense of development and testing," says Chris Heidelberger, CEO at Nexaweb Technologies. "The Nexaweb Client/Server-to-Cloud Platform enables organizations to take the cloud to the cloud--and modernize their entire IT ecosystem of applications, platforms and processes."

Nexaweb incorporates three primary components that can transform legacy applications to the cloud: a development component, a test component and a management component. The cloud-based development component, called devCloud, is a key element of Nexaweb’s PaaS solution.

devCloud is a self-contained Linux system that includes an Eclipse-based developer desktop and a consolidated dashboard for managing build versions and controlling resource allocation. To meet the needs of enterprise development teams, Nexaweb devCloud allows users to use the same commercial database and applicationservers present in their current production environment. Nexaweb devCloud also includes a source code repository, allowing developers to run unit test coverage, static code analysis and trend reports. Before deploying new applications, it is prudent to thoroughly test for bugs or logic errors. Here, Nexaweb offers testCloud, which enables users to test against specific application versions, manage build promotion and simulate the target production environment. A user interface automation station is included, as well as a performance test station and a consolidated dashboard for build promotion, deployment, and access to system statistics and logs across the environment.

Once applications are deployed, it is important to monitor and maintain them. To meet that need, Nexaweb offers prodCloud, which provides monitoring, maintenance and service-level agreements suitable for production. It iscapable of deploying to N machine clusters for application servers and databases and provides backup and archive system components that can be incorporated with a third- party provider, allowing for redundancy and failover, as well as granular audit capability for system configuration changes. prodCloud’s consolidated dashboard enables users to monitor system health across the environment and to start, stop or increase resources. prodCloud also provides clear control over system security.

David J. Jilk, CEO at Standing Cloud, a Nexaweb partner, says, "Standing Cloud is excited to be providing the cloud and platform layer for Nexaweb's groundbreaking application modernization capabilities. This partnership enables Nexaweb customers to modernize their application top-to-bottom, including making the deployment architecture cloud-ready."

Nexaweb devCloud is available now; pricing starts at $2,500 per month for up to five developers. Nexaweb testCloud is expected to be available at the end of the second quarter, and Nexaweb prodCloud is planned for availability at the end of the third quarter.
