PARSIPPANY, N.J. -- RELDATA, the leader of a new generation of unified storage systems, announced today that Swissmetal, a world-leading manufacturer of copper-alloy products for use in industries such as electronics, computing, telecommunications and aviation, has chosen RELDATAs unified storage gateway as the storage base on which to build a new business continuity system for email and file storage across its two head offices for global operations spanning North America, Europe and Asia. The solution gives Swissmetal a flexible unified IP storage platform where both block (application) and file data can be replicated between physical storage systems in Germany and Switzerland.

The two new storage systems, recommended and installed by local reseller Dexion AG will provide two local storage area networks (SANs) for email systems at the company’s offices in Dornach, Switzerland and Luedenscheid, Germany. Each system will also provide a live backup for the other, using RELDATA’s block-level replication technology over a standard 20 Megabit TCP/IP wide area network (WAN) connection.

“By working together with an innovative new player like RELDATA, we have been able to develop a unique, elegant and beautifully simple IT solution, at a cost which gives our company serious competitive advantage,” said Martin Heuschkel, chief information officer at Swissmetal.

Using RELDATA’s iSCSI connectivity, Swissmetal has also clustered the MicrosoftÒ ExchangeÒ nodes for each office across the two sites. This ensures that in the event of either an Exchange server or storage outage at either site, administrators have a live backup alternative instantly available.

“Our Microsoft Exchange servers demanded a SAN solution to ensure performance, and we also needed a business continuity system for email, but it can be extremely costly to replicate data between two remote SANs,” said Heuschkel. “Most vendors we looked at only offered part of the solution, or required significant additional licensing for the features we needed.RELDATA’s unified storage solution offered everything we needed within one product.”Reldata Inc.
