Survey Exposes Thumbsucking Threat

Senforce Technologies announced the findings of a survey conducted at the 2007 FOSE and InfoSec World tradeshows

DRAPER, Utah -- Senforce Technologies(R) Inc., the leader in endpoint security, today announced the findings of a survey conducted at the 2007 FOSE and InfoSec World tradeshows. The results reveal that an overwhelming number of respondents store data on removable devices, leaving data vulnerable to threats such as thumbsucking, where information is illicitly downloaded to a small thumb drive and used for malicious purposes.

To determine the prevalence of endpoint security risks in today's government and enterprise sectors, Senforce reached out to conference attendees.Respondents were asked questions about their organization's endpoint data, overall security strategy, security breaches, and level of confidence in network security.

Results from the survey:

Identified a lack of confidence in network security strategy
* Only 44% of respondents report confidence in their organization's network security for wireless, malware, endpoint security, and data encryption.

Demonstrated threats due to the use of portable storage devices
* 73% of respondents report that their organization houses data on removable storage devices such as laptops, thumb drives, or even iPods.Compared government and enterprise organizations and determined both have significant amounts of data at the endpoint

* 18% of InfoSec attendees report nearly half their corporate data resides at the endpoint.
* 17% of FOSE attendees report nearly half of their organizational data resides at the endpoint.

Acknowledged a lack of enforcement at the endpoint
* 46% of respondents report that their organization does not have, or they are unaware of their organization having, a comprehensive endpoint security policy.

Confirmed security breaches threaten to compromise organizations' critical assets
* 23% report a network security breach in the last 12-18 months, while 25% did not know if a breach had occurred.
