Sun Optimizes Solaris 10

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Sun Microsystems, Inc., (Nasdaq: SUNW - News) the creator of Java(TM) technology, the Solaris(TM) Operating System (OS) and the world's leading contributor of open source code, today announced a new set of products and services that will help make it easier for developers, start-ups and Internet companies to build and deploy their Web infrastructure on the free and open source-based Solaris 10 OS. The three offerings available today are:

*Solaris Express(TM), Developer Edition, an OpenSolaris(TM)-based
distribution for Solaris, Java, and Web 2.0 developers
*Solaris + AMP (Apache/MySQL/Perl or PHP), an open source-based Web
infrastructure stack optimized for the Solaris 10 OS
*An expanded Sun Startup Essentials(TM) program

"Internet start-ups and Web 2.0 companies have shown a preference for open source software running on x86 hardware platforms," said Rich Green, executive vice president of Software for Sun.
