SonicWALL, Inc. has announced a new addition to its Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) virtual private network (VPN) product line designed to meet the needs of small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs).

Designed for network of up to 50 users, and recommended for networks using a maximum of ten concurrent tunnels, the SSL-VPN 200 appliance offers ease of deployment and management. The appliance features a graphical user interface providing granular control over users' access to specific network resources. Unlike products that require organizations to pay a per-tunnel licensing fee, the SSL-VPN 200 has no user restrictions.

"With the growth of the mobile workforce, SMBs are increasingly focused on securing communications from outside the firewall without adding to IT support headaches," SonicWALL vice president and general manager Douglas Brockett said in a statement. "Our SSL VPN product line resonates with SMBs because it exemplifies our strategy of taking complex, expensive technologies and creating a cost-effective implementation that every business can afford. We believe this approach will enable SonicWALL to gain a strong unit share position in SSL VPN among the 78 million small businesses worldwide."

The SSL VPN 200 is designed to operate in conjunction with SonicWALL's PRO and TZ series firewalls, though it can interoperate with most third-party products. By routing traffic for packet inspection by a firewall, the appliance can provide additional network protection.
