Solid Data Breaks Price Barrier

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Solid Data Systems,
Inc., the leading global provider of solid-state storage systems,
announced today that it has significantly reduced pricing on its
family of solid-state disk (SSD) systems in response to the
decreasing cost of memory. In doing so, Solid Data has broken
through the once thought impenetrable price barrier of $100/Mb.

"Today, our customers can purchase 100 Gigabytes of Fibre SSD for
what 10 Gigabytes of SCSI SSD would have cost in 2002, a 10X price
reduction and a 10X density improvement in just five years," said
Wade Tuma, CEO of Solid Data Systems, Inc. "Additionally, our
customers benefit from the improved performance of Fibre connectivity
and modular design of the newer SSD systems."

Solid Data's SSDs store and retrieve data with a latency of less than
10 microseconds, making these appliances the lowest latency,
non-volatile, external storage systems in the industry. While more
expensive than rotating disks in cost per byte, the total cost of
ownership (TCO) of Solid Data's SSD solutions can be significantly
lower when considering additional expenses such as servers,
licensing, power consumption and maintenance costs. When databases
are small, the entire database is placed on SSD. For larger
databases, subsets of the database that have critical impact on
performance (such as roll-back segments, logs, temporary sort areas,
indices, and heavily accessed tables) are stored on SSD, while data
less critical to application performance are stored conventionally.
In either configuration, the result is significantly improved
performance and reliability, at a lower cost per transaction.

Solid Data's SSDs also provide an option for large on-line and
distributed databases, such as those used in the telecommunications
industry, where server memory in multiple servers is used for fast
access. As on-line and telecommunications distributed databases
expand to terabyte levels it becomes difficult and costly to manage
the large number of servers required. SSDs allow a significant
reduction of the number of servers while still providing main memory
