Microsoft, Pharos Ship Mapping Device

Microsoft and Pharos Science & Applications launches a GPS device and software for displaying maps and travel routes on a notebook.

The Pharos-built SiRFstarIII plugs into a notebook's USB port, and provides the data needed for Microsoft's Streets & Trips 2007 software to provide routes to locations. The device, which contains a global positioning system, can be operated wirelessly, if customers buy a Bluetooth dock or CompactFlash card adaptor from Pharos.

The SiRFstarIII and Streets & Trips 2007, which was also launched Wednesday, are available as a package for $129. The software alone sells for $40.
