CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Packeteer (NASDAQ: PKTR), the global leader in WAN application delivery, today announced that the MCW Group of Companies, a leading professional engineering services firm in Canada, has deployed iSharedÒ appliances and iShared FlexInstall software at all of its offices throughout Canada to optimize performance in the company’s enterprise-wide virtual private network (VPN). The iShared solution has reduced file access times by a factor of 25, and now ensures integrity of the company’s large AutoCAD files by eliminating previous version control problems.

The MCW Group of Companies provides Consulting Engineering Services (MCW Consultants Ltd.), Energy Management Services (MCW Custom Energy Solutions Ltd), and Power Engineering Services, (AGE Power Consultants). Because engineers at different locations routinely worked on the same project, the company operated a VPN connecting all of its offices. To deliver acceptable levels of performance, many of the larger AutoCAD files were replicated via the VPN to local servers. But the inability to coordinate updates to multiple versions of the same file caused version control and data corruption problems.

“What we needed was a distributed file system that would seamlessly extend the datacenter out to all offices,” explained Shawn Marten, IT manager at MCW. “As a complete ‘remote office in a box,’ the iShared solution is perfect for this purpose. With iShared’s approach that is based on single-instance storage with application-intelligent caching, we no longer need to make any tradeoffs between file integrity and user productivity.”
