DENVER -- Today, at Sun Forum 2007, Luminex announces a broad spectrum of installed mainframe virtual tape customers and configurations. Based on Luminexs previously announced Channel Gateway product family, these installations demonstrate the rapidly growing industry acceptance and unparalleled versatility of the Channel Gateway in bringing new technologies to the mainframe base of customers.
The Channel Gateway is a Sun Solaris-based solution that delivers virtual tape emulation for the z/OS, z/VM and z/VSE mainframe operating system environments. The Channel Gateway presents NAS, Fibre Channel, iSCSI and SCSI storage solutions to the mainframe as 3480, 3490 and 3590 tape drives. Mainframe tape backup, storage management, and applications work without modification with the Channel Gateway enabled storage.
“There has been a dramatic increase in the worldwide adoption rate of the Luminex Channel Gateway virtual tape solution,” stated Art Tolsma, Luminex’s CEO. “The advancements and proven enterprise quality of NAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, VTL and De-duplication products make these technologies very attractive to mainframe customers. The Channel Gateway is the enabling technology that opens the way for these solutions to be deployed in the mainframe data center.”
