Kumar Leaves Computer Associates
CA says Kumar's departure is part of the company's effort to finally bury the controversy over past accounting methods that have prompted federal investigations.

Sanjay Kumar, Computer Associates' former chairman and chief executive, severed all links to the company Friday, resigning as CA's chief software architect, too.

"I believe my decision to leave at this time is the right one," Kumar said in a statement. The firm is the subject of ongoing criminal and civil investigations by the United States Attorney General and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Kumar had resigned the chairman and chief executive posts in April, but stayed on with the company in the software position.
CA issued a statement from chairman Lewis Ranieri: "The board wishes Sanjay and his family well. The board is committed to reaching a settlement of the government's investigation into the company's past accounting practices as quickly as possible. We're working hard to take the remedial steps necessary to put this entire matter behind CA. Sanjay's decision to leave CA was made in that spirit."
Ken Cron replaced Kumar as interim CEO after Kumar resigned.
