Infortrend Intros RAID Array
Infortrend announced its first SAS-to-SAS RAID array
June 20, 2007
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Continuing tolead the adoption of SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) in RAID technology,RAID storage expert Infortrend(r) today announced its first SAS-to-SASRAID array: the EonStor(r) (ES) S12S-G1030 single-controller subsystem.
Organizations that deploy the ES S12S will greatly benefit from theimproved performance of having SAS as both a host and drive interface.Because SAS delivers greater bandwidth and higher data throughputcompared to SCSI-320, this new Infortrend system has ample bandwidthand processing capabilities to support massive storage capacities indata-hungry environments. The S12S can use both SAS and SATA driveswithin the same enclosure so that vendors can design cost- andperformance-effective storage solutions, using high-availability SASdrives for mission-critical solutions and cost-effective SATA drivesfor near-line backup environments.
The EonStor S12S-G1030 comes with four SAS wide host ports that provide12Gb-per-second bandwidth per port for high speed data transfer. TheS12S has a built-in SAS expansion port which can connect to as many asfour EonStor S12S-J1000-G SAS JBODs for up to 45TB of storage capacitywhen populated with 750GB SATA drives. As with all EonStor products, the S12S comes with full-featured RAID functionality, including RAID6,to provide the ultimate in data protection and availability.
"As a well established RAID storage manufacturer, Infortrend staysahead of the curve by introducing products that meet or exceed customerdemand for capacity and performance," said Tony Chu, president ofInfortrend Corporation. "SAS technology is ready to take off whereSCSI-320 ends. We were first-to-market with a Fibre Channel-to-SASsystem and we're now offering a 'pure' SAS array that deliversincreased performance and the flexibility to use the type of drive thatbest fits our customers' IT budgets and performance needs."
