MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Gear6 (www.Gear6.com) announced today that it will launch a new memcached-based solution on April 20, 2009 at the MySQL Conference, which runs April 20 through April 23 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.

Gear6 Web Cache, a new product currently out of beta and being sold through an exclusive Early Access” program, is a memcached-based appliance that offers built-in fail over and replication; drastically reduces the number of memcached servers required; and provides new levels of management and control over memcached deployments.

Memcached is a general-purpose distributed memory caching system developed around dynamic web sites’ need for a distributed caching tier. Industry statistics show that nearly 70% of dynamic web sites – the fastest growing segment of the web represented by categories such as social networking, community-based media, and aggregation sites – use LAMP or Java based software stacks that require a distributed caching tier to scale. Memcached has become the de facto standard for this caching tier.
