3PAR Intros Tiered Storage Metering
Utility storage company also adds email alerting for proactive notification
September 11, 2007
FREMONT, Calif. -- 3PAR, the leading global provider of utility storage, announced today a new version of 3PAR System Reporter, a Web-based historical performance and capacity management reporting tool for 3PAR InServ® Storage Servers. New 3PAR System Reporter features include fine-grained, threshold-based email notification for proactive, Service Level Agreement (SLA) management and one-click tier views for easy administration of tiered-storage environments. Together, these features enable customers to plan, monitor, and meet SLA-based requirements in tiered environments with greater ease and precision.
“With the new 3PAR System Reporter, it’s ‘set it and forget it’,” said Jerry Porter, VP of Production Operations at Silverpop. “With System Reporter, our tiered-storage platform proactively notifies us of changes in metrics and trends so we can easily assure service levels for our various campaigns.”
Effortless Service Level Administration
As users increasingly consume storage as a service, service level management and planning involves more intensive and critical activities for administrators. Without proper tools to automate the process, manual gathering and conversion of system-level data into SLA-relevant information is time-consuming and error-prone. With 3PAR System Reporter, users define application-specific or system-level performance and capacity thresholds and trends about which they want to be notified. Built-in email services, coupled with the rich logical instrumentation of 3PAR InServ Storage Servers, enable System Reporter to keep administrators informed effortlessly--anytime, anywhere--of the most salient service level information such as aggregated or application-specific IOPS, throughput, and service times.
Tiered-Storage Management Made SimplerWith InServ Storage Servers, 3PAR customers have the ability to consolidate the entire disk-based data lifecycle into a single, cost-effective, massively scalable and fully tiered storage array. Many 3PAR customers, for example, scalably and cost-effectively deploy both high-performance Fibre Channel and cost-efficient Nearline drives without the need to purchase and manage several, distinct classes of arrays. With the new tier views featured by 3PAR System Reporter, users can understand—instantly, historically, and by tier—physical and logical capacity utilization and availability across their InServ Storage Server environment. This includes trends by configuration policy (i.e., RAID level). High-level trends and low-level details are instantly observable in easily customizable chart formats so users can manage growth simply on a tier-by-tier basis.
“With tiered storage gaining momentum, the ability to monitor, measure, and report on tiers is essential,” said Tom Trainer, Senior Analyst at Evaluator Group. “Enhancements to 3PAR System Reporter are welcome news for 3PAR customers who can now make smarter decisions about their tiered-storage environments using important metrics while at the same time experiencing simplified overall management of their 3PAR arrays.”
