Wave7 Optics Inc., a passive optical network equipment provider specializing in networks for municipalities, has signed a fiber deployment deal with a utility trust authority in Oklahoma.

Wave7 will work with Atlantic Engineering Group Inc. to develop a fiber-to-the-premises network for Sallisaw, Okla., an eastern Oklahoma town with 4,100 residences and businesses.

Wave7 was one of the first passive fiber system companies in the post-recession period to emphasize opportunities for municipalities developing their own broadband networks separate from service providers.

The Sallisaw trust authority will invest approximately $7 million in the network, which will offer voice, video and data services to the town. Wave7 will provide access and customer premises products, while Atlantic Engineering performs network design and engineering services.

Network construction will begin late this year and is scheduled for completion during 2005.
