Net2Phone Launches VoWLAN Drive

Voice-over-IP vendor Net2Phone Thursday announced an initiative that it claimed will make it easy for wireless access providers and others to voice-over-WLAN services to their customers.

Specifically, the company said it will offer wireless carriers SIP-based hosted wireless telephone services that include the infrastructure carriers require, such as billing services and call management. The service also will provide calling features such as call waiting, caller ID and voicemail, Net2Phone said in a statement.

The company said it is aiming the service at wireless ISPs, rural phone carriers, wired broadband providers and public hotspot providers. The company also announced it has its first customer for the VoWLAN service. It said IDT, an independent carrier, will deploy the Wi-Fi phone service at a variety of locations in the U.S.
