Wireless e-mail is driving the adoption of wireless wide-area networking and the potential market for that application is about 35 million users in the U.S., according to a study released Monday by Yankee Group.
That represents about 70 percent of the mobile workforce, the study notes. The study indicates that wireless e-mail has transitioned in many enterprises from a nice-to-have to a must-have application.
"The key for IT decision-makers is not whether wireless e-mail is necessary, but how wireless e-mail can be deployed and managed cost-effectively," Eugene Signorini, a Yankee Group program manager said in a statement.
Wireless e-mail has become so important that it is driving enterprise decisions about wireless data solutions, Signorini said.
