Zone Labs Jumps Into Wireless Security

Zone Labs, best known for its firewalls for home and SOHO users, Tuesday released a product to protect laptop users when they connect wirelessly to the Internet.

The company said that its ZoneAlarm Wireless Security combines its existing firewall technology with wireless security and e-mail protection. The company said the product detects when a wireless connection is made and automatically puts unsecured networks in what it calls a "safe zone" that provides maximum security.

When the user connects to a wireless network using either WEP or WPA security, the user can choose whether to put that network in a safe zone or a trusted zone. Connecting to a trusted zone enables file and printer sharing.

The company said ZoneAlarm Wireless Security is available for Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP. It costs $29.95.
