TIBCO One: SOA Products Tied Up With a Bow

Like IBM, BEA and Oracle, TIBCO is trying to offer a "SOA-in-a-box" environment that includes development tools, runtime platform and application integration middleware. These will appeal to IT shops that want to get everything from a single supplier, but there is still a market for best-of-breed applications from specialist vendors for enterprises that need to integrate multiple application platforms. TIBCO differs from the others in its focus on higher-level functions such as BPM and EDA.

TIBCO Software this week launched a new SOA effort, dubbed TIBCO One Project, that promises to combine all the elements of a service-oriented architecture in a wide-ranging platform.

Launched at the vendor's user conference, TIBCO One aims to bring together concepts such as SOA, business process management (BPM) and event-driven architecture (EDA) and deliver them in a way that's easy for IT to deploy and administer.

The goal of the project, the vendor said, is a "build-your-own" infrastructure application that ties together existing apps and new code in quick-to-deploy service environments.
