EMC Corp. on Monday launched two record-management products that extend the company's Documentum enterprise content management platform.
One of the two products, Documentum Information Rights Management Services adds technology from the February acquisition of Authentica Inc. The new software gives companies the ability to control access to documents, even when the recipients are outside the corporation.
The second product Documentum Records Manager 5.3 provides the ability to manage documents through their lifecycle.
IRMS includes a policy server that's configured to authenticate a person and to assign access privileges, such as read only, no printing, etc. Each time the file is open, it communicates with the server first, giving administrators the option to change privileges. Permission to open the file, for example, could be denied at anytime.
"The file is always in contact with the policy server," Lubor Ptacek, director of marketing for content management at Hopkinton, Mass.-based, EMC, said.
