Microsoft Releases Early Exchange 12 Beta: Page 3 of 3

In November, Microsoft said Exchange 12 server would be 64-bit only, a move that provoked some consternation.

Ressler noted, however, it's increasingly difficult to buy even a low-end server that is not running on 64-bit chips. "Of course you need the 64-bit operating system. We're not saying it's trivial but the benefits are so great. It will let people get most out of their storage. Today Exchange is storage constrained," he said

While some critics slammed Microsoft's decision to pull back from a planned new "Kodiak" message store, Ressler said Microsoft has worked hard to fortify and enhance the JET store underlying Exchange, both past and future.
