The American Medical Association this week declined to list excessive video game playing as an addiction, according to the Associated Press. The AMA did acknowledge that because 70 to 90 percent of U.S. youths play video games, more research is needed on long-term effects. It punted the full report to the American Psychiatric Association, for possible inclusion in a future edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.
Meanwhile, Blizzard Entertainment last month offered a Visa Rewards credit card based on World of Warcraft, which boasts more than 8 million users worldwide. The card earns WoW game time. So, does that mean we could pay for the psychiatists with ... no, let's not go there.
