VoIP Security Alliance Names Board, Details Security Rules

The Voice over IP Security Alliance (VOIPSA) has announced its newly elected board of directors and detailed its plans to develop security requirements for VoIP networks.

Launched on February 7, the alliance now has more than fifty corporate members representing a cross section of the North American VoIP, networking and network security industries. The organization elected TippingPoint's director of "digital vaccine" David Endler president and Anne Coulombe, Enterasys Networks' director of secure convergence as its treasurer.

VOIPSA's immediate plans are to develop a threat taxonomy and define VoIP security requirements. To these ends, it has established committees to define security requirements and best practices and to drive security research and testing. And education and community outreach committee has also been created to refine the alliance's message and get it out to the industry and the public on the Web and through conferences and related events.

The organization maintains the VOIPSEC mailing list to discuss VoIP security issues and which boasts more than 2,500 participants. Subscription information is available online at http://www.voipsa.org/lists.html.
