VoIP Port Shipments Jump 16.5% In Second Quarter: Report

Over 16 million units are shipped; Nortel is the market leader, followed by Siemens and Huawei.

VoIP port shipments were up 16.5% in the second quarter of 2005 over the first quarter, according to a survey by Dittberner Associates. More than 16 million media gateway, softswitch and integrated VoIP ports were shipped during the quarter, the firm found.

The firm cited carrier upgrades as the primary reason for the growth, in addition to price cuts because of increasing competition.

Nortel is the VoIP port market leader, Dittberner says, with 20.6% market share, followed by Siemens with 18.2%, Huawei Technologies with 16.2%, Sonus Networks with 12.8%, and Tekelec with 8.8%.

The CALA region experienced the strongest growth, with a 43.9% jump, while APAC had a decrease of 9.8% over the last quarter.
