Symantec intends to incorporate Sygate's technology into its line of antivirus and network utility products to make all the pieces of security compliance cheaper, more manageable and less painful. The combination of the technologies could be powerful. But first we'll have to see how the two companies deal with their overlapping intrusion-prevention and personal firewall products, and how well technologies from Symantec's competitors--such as McAfee and Trend Micro, which Sygate supported--will be treated.
