  • Apple Computer:

    Created a huge market opportunity for itself by offering a viable FC SAN
    at affordable prices. Will do more of the same in the near future.

  • Cisco Systems:
    With Cisco considered a serious player in the SAN market, and as SANs move more and more into the IP networking space, watch for Cisco to use its reputation as an IP switch and router vendor to maximize its storage market share.
  • Exanet:
    Applying high-performance methodology to the IP SAN market. With an IP SAN that scales in both amount of storage and performance, watch for Exanet to
    capture a segment of the 'high-performance but affordable' market.
  • Intransa:
    Develops IP SAN equipment. Intransa has taken major steps to improve reliability and scalability. If the company's marketing is as good as its technology, it'll grow.
  • SANRAD:
    Specializes in high-availability switches for IP SANs. Interestingly enough, the
    company is also seeing traction with cross-campus SAN linking. Now that it
    knows there's a need, watch for SANRAD to market its solutions to fit it.

Security

  • Airespace:
    The WLAN has to be safe to be viable in the enterprise.
  • Cisco Systems:
    Cisco's moves in security can move the industry.
  • McAfee:
    Company is pushing enterprise security into the SMB space.
  • NetContinuum:

    When you have no perimeter, protecting the applications becomes critical.

  • RSA:
    The big player in passwords and authentication.
