Standards Watch: OASIS WS-Security

OASIS today announced that the WS-Security (WSS) v1.1 specification has been ratified as a standard.
A lengthy list of industry supporters, including Actional, Adobe, AmberPoint, BEA Systems, IBM, Oracle, Reactivity, RSA Security, Sun, and Microsoft, have been working on the standard for quite some time and are surely pleased to see WSS 1.1 become a standard.

WS-Security builds on existing security technologies to deliver an industry standard way of securing Web services message exchanges.
Providing a framework within which authentication and authorization take place, WS-Security lets users apply existing security
technology and infrastructure in a Web services environment.

You can read more about WS-Security here at OASIS' web site, or in one of our many articles on the subject: Dive Carefully, XML Threat Defense, or XML Factor.
