Skype Endorses iSkoot's Mobile Internet Calling

Mobile Internet calling provider iSkoot picked up a valuable endorsement from Skype Tuesday in an agreement that endorses iSkoot's method that enables mobile phone users to use Skype's VoIP service without a PC or a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The deal calls for Skype to certify iSkoot's solution in which callers can place and receive Skype calls over their handsets.

"Skype users will enjoy the benefits of Skype on their cell phone," said Jacob Guedalia, iSkoot chief executive officer, in a statement. "In addition to text messaging, they will be able to place and receive Skype calls from their mobile phones to and from their online contacts."

The service is available on Java-based phones like those offered by Cingular Wireless The service doesn't work with providers using Qualcomm's BREW-based phones, however.

Guedalia maintains that iSkoot will actually be a boon to service providers rather than cutting into the calling minutes of mobile phone service providers.
