QLogic Launches New Attack On Network Convergence Landscape: Page 2 of 2

The company also announced new security technology that provides the flexibility that storage vendors are looking for. Today's storage systems are highly intelligent and should decompress data and unlock it themselves. QLogic's new SecureFlex technology protects data until it arrives at the storage system and then it's in the storage system's hands. In my opinion, this approach is simpler and over the fullness of time has the ability to become superior to security offerings and claims from others such as Emulex and Brocade, which appear to try and lock data into their adapters, which in turn prevent a storage system from reading its own data unless it complies with the adapter vendor's proprietary encryption policies.

At the end of the day, QLogic has delivered third-generation converged networking technology--based on experience it reports that it gained from hundreds of real-world customer implementations worldwide--at a time when its competitors are scrambling with either new adapters or grappling with technology and personnel integration issues. QLogic officially threw down the gauntlet again today with the 3GCNA.

How will the competition respond?  This will be an interesting fourth quarter and a highly competitive new year for converged networking.
