NetScreen Updates Software For IDP Appliance Line

NetScreen on Monday unveiled an update to the software which runs its lines of intrusion detection and prevention hardware, adding new features for analyzing network traffic and stopping worm attacks.

The new IDP 3.0 software features a module that lets administrators view application- and network-layer traffic, both to monitor the current state of the environment and the organization's current security policies. Built-in filters let managers to more quickly identify attacks, determine the root cause, and react to worms assaulting the network, said NetScreen.

IDP 3.0 also integrates an alert manager that uses a consolidated interface to show administrators vulnerability data -- such as which operating systems are affected by an attack -- as well as the availability of patches.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company's IDP appliance line -- including its 10, 100, 500, and 1000 models -- will roll in the updated software in late March, the company said.
