Home Networking Chip Start-up Raises $14.5 Million

LONDON — Home and multimedia networking chip startup CopperGate Communications has closed a third round of financing, raising $14.5 million.

The round was led by new investor Carmel Ventures, with existing backers Tamir Fishman Ventures and the Challenge Fund also participating.

In its first two rounds during 2000 and 2003, CopperGate raised a total of nearly $10 million

CopperGate (Tel Aviv, Israel) said the additional funds would be used to accelerate expansion into international markets as well as to grow its product development and customer support capacity.

Founded in 2000, CopperGate focuses on chipsets for home networking distribution and is targeting IPTV and ‘triple play’ applications. It is the pioneer and sole provider of the HPNA (Home Phoneline Networking Alliance) version 3.0 standard chipsets, which utilize existing coax cables and telephony wiring in the home.
