Fujitsu Jumps Into WiMAX Chip Market
Fujitsu said this week it is developing WiMAX wireless broadband chipsets that will put it into direct competition with Intel.
Fujitsu Microelectronics America said in a statement that it is working with "leading equipment and infrastructure vendors" to develop chipsets for both base stations deployed by carriers and end user equipment. The company said that the chipsets would be certified for interoperability by the WiMAX Alliance.
Fujitsu said it expected to release the chipsets in early 2005, which is similar to the timeframe previously outlined by Intel.
