Chipmaker, Chinese Institute Collaborate On WiMAX

BATH, England — Four months after opening its Chinese office and development center, picoChip has announced a key partnership with the Institute of Computing Technology (ICT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) to collaborate on the acceleration of WiMAX in China.

ICT will use picoChip's WiMAX reference designs and PC102 processor, and the two organisations will work together to help Chinese carriers with the development and deployment of WiMAX systems.

Speaking at the UK-China High Technology Industry Forum in Beijing. Li Zhongcheng, Director of the Network Department of the ICT, said, "We have great confidence that this agreement will be of substantial benefit to both of us and to our Chinese customers."

Peter Claydon, co-founder and CEO of picoChip, added, "Building on our plans for growth in the Chinese market, we are delighted that ICT recognises our global technology strength in WiMAX and has committed to a long-term relationship with us.
