Buffalo Takes Wraps Off Wirless Cable/DSL Router

Buffalo Technology unveiled it's a high speed mode wireless cable/DSL router. Officials say the wireless solution allows users to automatically set up secure wireless networks; the technology detects and configures other devices and creates a secure connection.

The new AirStation 125 High Speed Mode Cable/DSL router is reportedly compatible with both DSL and cable modems and includes speed-enhancing technology that increases wireless performance by up to 35 percent.

When operating in High-Speed Mode, officials say this Wi-Fi device achieves an actual throughput of up to 34Mbps, which is the equivalent throughput of a system following 802.11g protocol and operating at a signaling rate of 125Mbps.

The product is designed to conform to Wi-Fi standards. The router includes WDS support for bridging and repeating and external antenna support for enhanced range. The built-in 10/100 4-port Ethernet switch allows users to combine wired and wireless networks on the same LAN and the built-in DHCP server simplifies network administration.

Advanced security features include Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), Privacy Separator and Buffalo's Intrusion Detector -- a firewall that identifies and blocks outside attacks. Additional security features include dynamic packet filtering, NAT support and SPI firewall. The street price for the product has been set at $79.
