Borderware Debuts SIP Firewall For VoIP, IP Apps

Borderware Technologies Inc. today unveiled SIPassure 2.0, the latest version of its Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) firewall, which it says will help raise the level of security for SIP-based applications.

According to Borderware, traditional edge security devices are ill-suited to secure real-time SIP communications. SIPassure 2.0 is designed to provide specific application-layer security for SIP Proxy Servers, IP private branch exchanges (PBXs) and real-time applications like voice over IP (VoIP), instant messaging and video conferencing. It not only protects application and media servers, but also secures users and SIP end points without compromising call quality or usability.

"SIP is an extremely powerful protocol that will facilitate the next generation of IP-based communication," BorderWare CEO Tim Leisman said in a statement. "Security concerns continue to hinder adoption and wide-scale deployment of SIP based applications. SIPassure provides the application-level security enterprises require and mitigates these vulnerabilities, removing a major barrier to adoption."

In addition to its SIP-based features, SIPassure 2.0 also functions as a secure edge proxy offering NAT traversal, topology hiding, session management, and traditional firewall protection.
