Big Band Networks Debuts Video Coding Solution for IPTV Providers

Big Band Networks has announced a series of advanced video coding (AVC) solutions for Internet television (IPTV) providers.

The offerings allow any kind of video content to be converted to bandwidth-efficient AVC formats for delivery over IP networks. With the IP-based AVC algorithms, high quality digital video can be carried across the network using about half the bandwidth necessary for MPEG-2 video. AVC video can provide greater content flexibility and be delivered over fiber, DSL and cable networks.

BigBand's AVC solutions provide transcoding to AVC from any video format and offer bandwidth efficiency through priority-driven dynamic bit rate reduction and bit rate clamping. They support secure content delivery through open conditional access system integration, and forward error correction, as well as standards-based advertising insertion, slate insertion and Emergency Alert System compliance.

"Telecommunications and cable operators are working with BigBand Networks to realize visions of leveraging AVC for IPTV services at the highest video quality, greatest bandwidth efficiency and richest service functionality," BigBand CTO Ran Oz said in a statement. "The intelligence of the BigBand platforms openly extends our established video-aware networking approaches to AVC content."
