Belair Releases All-In-One Wireless Architecture For Voice, Video, and Data

BelAir Networks has announced a new multiservice architecture capable of delivering high quality voice, video and data services on a metropolitan scale over Wi-Fi, WiMAX 802.16 and third-generation (3G) cellular technologies.

The company's new Wireless Multi-service Architecture (WMSA) is designed to scale up from local Wi-Fi, wide-area WiMAX and 3G cellular networks without requiring the deployment of a new network backbone. The architecture is based on BelAir's four-radio BelAir200 and two-radio BelAir100 modular wireless multi-service switch routers, which are designed to accept radio module updates to accommodate new radio technologies as required. The BelAir200 router, featuring extended coverage Wi-Fi access has been shipping since last spring.

BelAir plans to develop WiMAX access radio modules as the technology becomes available on wireless client devices, ultimately resulting in a WiMAX micro-cell. These micro-cells will be able to be used large scale deployments of wireless network services in densely-populated urban and to interconnect with WiMAX macro-cells through point-to-point links using a backhaul radio module.

The WMSA announcement will enable the migration to advanced IP wireless networks, according to BelAir CEO Bernard Herscovich. "Large-scale, wireless networks are evolving to converged, IP-based Next Generation Networks," He said in a statement. "Our Wireless Multi-service Architecture gives service providers the flexibility they need in order to successfully leverage evolving technologies and standards - an important competitive advantage for carriers in this dynamic market."
