Alcatel Introduces "Triple-Play" Solution For Operators

Alcatel has introduced a Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) Fiber-To-The-User solution that adds a "last mile" option to end-to-end triple play architectures, enabling service providers to deploy voice, data, and video services to users at rates up to 2.5Gbps.

Announced Monday, Alcatel said its 7342 ISAM FTTU solution is based on proposed specifications by the Full Service Access Network (FSAN) of the ITU. The firm noted that the new Gigabit Passive Optical Network enhancement extends the capabilities of Alcatel's ISAM family, which has been adopted by more than 15 large global customers.

"FTTU lets operators leverage their large installed base of Alcatel's broadband management systems and offers a timely response to U.S. RBOC interest in making a gradual transition from BPON to GPON," said Dave Dunphy, of Current Analysis in a statement.
