3COM Rolls Out New VoIP Applications

Remote users will be able to gain secure access to a company's converged communication network with 3Com's new set of VoIP applications.

The new applications are designed to increase employee productivity, reduce telecom costs, and build stronger customer interactions no matter where employees are working from. The applications are targeted at branch and mobile workers, because employees can make a call through the IP telephony system from anywhere there is an Internet connection.

Mobile and remote users can also redirect an office call to a mobile phone, hotel room, or other office. Mobility is further enhanced by enabling the use of corporate IP telephony applications, such as IP messaging, IP conferencing, and IP contact centers.

The telecommuting module is open and standards based, leveraging SIP to provide the flexibility, interoperability and ease-of-use needed in a converged environment. 3Com uses Ingate System's technology, which will solve far-end NAT traversal issues inherent in SIP communications.

"3Com and Ingate Systems are addressing an important need for enterprises to provide an open standards-based telecommuting solution which improves business processes," Zeus Kerravala, vice president of enterprise infrastructure for The Yankee Group said in a statement. "It is imperative today that enterprises find a way to help their associates who telecommute and travel a great deal to remain productive while accessing their communication applications in a secure, converged fashion."
