When the world's tallest building is inaugurated in Taipei at the end of the month, it will boast mobile-phone coverage reaching throughout the 106-story building, including its elevators. The indoor coverage is provided by Ericsson under contract to Chungwa Telecom.
The Taipei Financial Center, also called Taipei 101, reaches 508 meters high, and has one of the world's most comprehensive in-building communications setups, according to Ericsson. Even the elevators, which travel at speeds up to 1,000 meters a minute, are covered.
The common antenna system enables different 2G and 3G frequency bands, including GSM900, GSM1800, CDMA800, CDMA2000, and WCDMA. Ericsson said it has deployed more than 7,000 in-building solutions in buildings and structures throughout the world.
