The Black Hat convention was attended mostly by IT managers and independent researchers.
Business systems followed by infrastructure technology were areas of greatest concern for IT managers.
The overwhelming majority of IT managers (67%) are most concerned about the Windows XP platform having vulnerabilities and least concerned with the Mac OS (12%).
The Windows Vista Platform is of the most interest for researchers with more than half (55%) indicating they plan to review it in the next year.
Nearly half the sample (46%) stated that they plan to research operating systems (services or libraries).
Web services followed by mobile technologies were indicated as upcoming hot security issues within web application security.
Job function and curiosity were most frequently cited reasons for researching an application or technology.
85 percent of respondents are based in North America.
