NEW YORK --

  • The Black Hat convention was attended mostly by IT managers and independent researchers.

  • Business systems followed by infrastructure technology were areas of greatest concern for IT managers.

  • The overwhelming majority of IT managers (67%) are most concerned about the Windows XP platform having vulnerabilities and least concerned with the Mac OS (12%).

  • The Windows Vista Platform is of the most interest for researchers with more than half (55%) indicating they plan to review it in the next year.

  • Nearly half the sample (46%) stated that they plan to research operating systems (services or libraries).

  • Web services followed by mobile technologies were indicated as upcoming hot security issues within web application security.

  • Job function and curiosity were most frequently cited reasons for researching an application or technology.

  • 85 percent of respondents are based in North America.
