UNMH Turns to Brocade

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade) (Nasdaq: BRCD - News) today announced that the University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH), long cited as one of the nation's top-performing hospitals, has cost-effectively migrated critical financial information from its legacy storage system in one data center to a new storage system in a second, larger data center while maintaining data integrity using Brocade Professional Services and Brocade solutions. The migration gives the 384-bed, Albuquerque provider nonstop access to this data so it can analyze how to allocate its $400 million budget to best serve 150,000-plus patients. Within a 24-hour period, a Brocade Solutions Consultant, teaming with UNMH IT staff, utilized Brocade Data Migration Manager (DMM) and Brocade 4100 Switches to migrate the data seamlessly to a Dell CX500 storage array.

By turning to Brocade Professional Services, UNMH ensured the availability of reports from a Decision-Support System (DSS) that executives use daily to develop budget and business strategies. In addition, the services-led approach was extremely cost-effective for the hospital, as the project was funded out of existing operational, not capital budget.

"Our healthcare delivery depends on the continuous flow of medical files and records to our staff," said Mike Biedermann, Systems Analyst, UNMH. "So to migrate our financial information, we needed an external resource with the expertise to complete the transfer quickly without disrupting our data services. Brocade Professional Services implemented a solution that helped eliminate the risks associated with this transfer. Its migration strategy, coupled with the Brocade DMM and Brocade 4100 Switches, allowed us to move the data at minimal expense without a glitch, enabling us to complete the project within one weekend as we required."
