According to the headlines, it sure seemed like Linus Torvalds was putting his stamp of approval on Novell's Linux-or-bust strategy when he made a surprise appearance at Novell's Brainshare developers' conference this week. But according to Network Computing's man-on-the-spot, Ron Anderson, in reality Torvalds seemed a tad uncomfortable in his role as token spokesman.
"He was there obviously as a marketing ploy, and it was partially successful," said Anderson, NWC's senior technology editor. "But based on his comfort level on stage it really seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else."
