Long data retention also means data will live longer than
the useful life of the hardware it's initially stored on. The system should accommodate this
requirement by supporting multiple generations of storage media on the same
device (say CD, DVD and Blu-Ray for 20 years of optical storage) or multiple
generations of storage nodes in a RAIN configuration so new nodes can be added
to the cluster and old ones cycled out when the vendor declares them end of
life.

fixed content storage including CAS, RAIN, NAS and removable storage media.
